Mari Minato
たゆたひ Sourdre — Oscillation du passé enseveli

In 22 days: January 10 → February 28, 2026

Originally from Japan, Mari Minato first studied traditional Japanese painting in Kyoto before arriving in France, where she joined the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She enjoys drawing inspiration from civilizations that have now disappeared—such as the Etruscans and Neanderthals—as well as from the history of the territories where she is invited to work.

For this exhibition, she focuses more particularly on the Magdalenian people who lived in the Île-de-France region, in connection with the sites of Étiolles in Essonne and Pincevent in Seine-et-Marne, which bear witness to a prehistoric way of life close to the Seine River. Her colorful pictorial gesture unfolds across wall surfaces as well as on sheets of paper, on ceramics, and in sketchbooks. Whatever the medium, the importance given to white remains fundamental to the balance of her works, enhancing the presence of the sign. In the months leading up to the exhibition, the artist continued her work with clay, working on site in the workshops of the art school.
