Mario Giacomelli
Photographe et poète

Past: November 3 → December 10, 2011

Born in 1925, Mario Giacomelli stayed all his life close to his birthplace, the town of Senigallia, on the Adriatic coast. At 20, fascinated by car races, he escapes a serious accident, and turns towards poetry and photography. Although it has gained early recognition, particularly by the MoMA in New-York, his work is unusual, completely marginal. Solitary in his village, Mario Giacomelli takes the path of an independant work, on the fringe of the fashions and the trends. Beings face to face with themselves or caught in the stream of life stand out on spaces without depth. The series of Mario Giacomelli are like the verses of a poem: villagers working in the fields, landscapes transformed by the intensity of the contrasts, priests in the snow, children struck by the light and the sea.
