Matt Copson — Open Space #2
Exhibition
Matt Copson
Open Space #2
Past: July 6 → September 23, 2018
Matt Copson works in multidisciplinary, hybrid forms, drawing on British popular culture, from urban legends and mediaeval fables to comic strips and cartoons, from grunge to punk. His dreamlike, sometimes comical world, tinged with dark humour and irony, is filled with fantastical characters, anthropomorphic figures and amazing animals, particularly foxes and birds.
For Open Space, Matt Copson has created Blorange (2018), a new immersive installation composed of three monumental laser projections accompanied by a soundtrack, in which a teenager recites a monologue: part poem, part manifesto.
Born in 1992, Matt Copson lives and works in London. He graduated in 2014 from London’s Slade School of Fine Art. A rising figure of the young British art scene, he presented his work in the context of both solo and collective exhibitions in England and internationally (Serpentine Gallery (London), IMMA (Dublin), Sharjah Art Foundation (UAE)). In 2017, he participated in the 89+ residency at the Paris Google Cultural Institute.
