“The objects created by Nicolas Chatelain are based on his gleanings and experiments. They are assemblages of miscellaneous materials, such as wood, pieces of plywood, metal parts, or paint. He arranges them with the obsessive care a child might bring to the making of small craft items, in which his vision of the world materializes and makes sense. At first sight, paint serves as a mere coating which covers apparently unassuming objects. However, when taking a closer look, it turns out to act as a “nymph” allowing the slow inconspicuous transformation of modest items into subjects of aesthetic experiences.”
