In 20 days: June 20 → December 31, 2025

Step into the vibrant world of Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely through the visionary lens of Pontus Hulten. Blending passion and boundless creativity, this exhibition unveils the incredible alchemy uniting these two artists and their close collaborator, forging an art that is free, participatory, and revolutionary.

A legendary couple, Niki de Saint Phalle (1930–2002) and Jean Tinguely (1925–1991) were bound by an unbreakable artistic connection and a shared vision of creation as an act of rebellion against established norms.

The exhibition traces the prolific journeys of both artists through the figure of Pontus Hulten (1924–2006), the first director of the Musée National d’Art Moderne at the Centre Pompidou, who embraced their disruptive, multidisciplinary, and participatory approach to art. Throughout his career, Hulten offered unwavering support to Saint Phalle and Tinguely—acquiring their works, organizing retrospectives, giving them carte blanche, and backing extraordinary projects such as the monumental Nana in the 1966 exhibition Hon — en Katedral at Stockholm’s Moderna Museet, or Le Crocrodrome de Zig & Puce (1977) at the Centre Pompidou’s Forum.

Drawing from the rich collections of the Centre Pompidou and major loans from French and international institutions, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely, Pontus Hulten invites visitors to (re)discover iconic works by these two major artists, championed by an exceptional museum figure, in a historical and playful journey where art, love, friendship, and commitment intertwine.
