William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) was one of the great poets of the twentieth century. He created works that are universally known and loved, and that have exerted a profound influence on world literature. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1923. This exhibition addresses the life and work of Yeats and also focuses on other family members. It gives an insight into the social, cultural and political evolution of Ireland from the late nineteenth century to the beginning of the Second World War, a time of great change and artistic excitement.

Panels in French, audio-recordings of poetry readings together with original documents and works such as Louis le Brocquy’s lithograph depicting Yeats’ head combine to present this world-renowned poet who is perhaps less well-known in France than his compatriots Beckett and Joyce.

This exhibition is organised in collaboration with the National Library of Ireland, The Model Sligo & the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin.
