Marisa Baumgartner
Drawing, photography
Marisa Baumgartner’s work investigates space, both concrete and conceptual, that exists within the vacuums of history, memory and idealism. Her images focus on the void, on the emptiness present in photographic images and the hidden/shadowy sentiments behind them.
Fay Ku
Painting
Working on paper, Fay KU creates whimsical yet disturbing tableaux, featuring mainly young women and children in both vulnerable and aggressive postures. With an accomplished draftsmanship and unusual vision, she exposes the tension between feminine and delicate subjects and their undercurrent violence and exploitation.
Motoi Yamamoto
Drawing
Motoi Yamamoto has been using salt in his sculptures, paintings and installations for 15 years after he experienced loss and grief. Salt is a symbol of life and wealth, but also a material used in several traditional rituals in Japan, with a meaning of purification.
Bahareh Navabi
Drawing
Since her arrival in Paris from Iran 2005, Bahareh Navabi turned to figuration after several years of abstraction. Since 2008 she has built up a portrait gallery of bizarre characters in black and white. Her approach is gradual, made through experiments. Her drawings are both portraits and figures, almost objects.
Hae-Sun Hwang
Mixed media, drawing
Hae-sun Hwang uses a vocabulary made of whispers and transparency. Her work is colorless, with fine lines and a light technique: one can say it is an aesthetic of silence. Hwang often uses silkscreen on glass, which is very delicate, and she composes views of everyday life by superposing the elements.
Maiko Kobayashi
Painting, drawing
Since 2000, Maiko Kobayashi has drawn and painted repetitively an un-named character. This hybrid creature, an animal expressing human feelings, seems to belong to the Japanese Kawaï (cute) trend. But Kobayashi uses this popular pictural vocabulary to gain from the public an easy access to the deep emotions.
Polixeni Papapetrou
Photography
Polixeni Papapetrou is a photographer who explores issues of identity and performance. She has been working in the realm of childhood, capturing the playful but also sometimes dramatic and worrying experiences of this stage of life. While the décor and setting are totally under control, she never manipulates her images.
Gabriela Maciel
Mixed media
Gabriela Maciel artistic process starts at the 80s using everyday sources, matter, material for making objects collages drawings and paintings. They were painted, melted fire, cut, hanged, glued or pinned. K-7 tapes and LPs were used for making sound collages, mixing with recordings bits of radio stations, and “sound of things”.
Kristina Bength
Drawing
The Swedish artist Kristina Bength reactivates and translates past events into paintings and drawings. She reveals the possibility of distorting history and memory and replaying the present. Since 2008, Bength has worked on the story of Amanda Kristina Pedersen by bringing the game of fraud and imposture into play…
