Galerie Miranda

Art gallery and bookshop specialised in photography, Galerie Miranda presents work by artists who are established in their own country but who have had little exposure in Europe. Exhibitions are organised in thematic cycles, two times a year. Thus the gallery opened on March 8th 2018 with a first cycle of solo shows by three women artists: Jo Ann Callis, Nancy Wilson-Pajic and Marina Berio. Throughout each cycle, the gallery proposes a hand-picked selection of books in relation to the exhibitions, on the life and work of photographers as well as of other artists, writers and critics. The book selection is organised in collaboration with les Éditions du Portrait, the only publishing house in Europe dedicated to the portrait genre, founded in 2013 by Rachèle Bevilacqua (www.leseditionsduportrait.fr).

Galerie Miranda is located in Paris’ vibrant 10th arrondissement, at 21 rue du Château d’Eau close to the Place de la République and 100 metres from the former site, on rue Léon Jouhaux, of Louis Daguerre’s wonderful Diorama and laboratory, destroyed by fire in 1839. The gallery and bookshop is founded by Miranda Salt, Franco-Australian who has lived and worked in the 10th arrondissement of Paris for the most part of the last 23 years. A graduate in political science from the University of Melbourne, Australia, she spent eight years working in bookselling and publishing before moving in 1995 to Paris, where she has occupied senior positions in the media and cultural sectors. For over ten years she ran the vast not-for-profit art space le Passage du Désir, producing 17 major exhibitions of different artistic genres including photography, (Here is New York, Alex MacLean, Harry Gruyaert, World Press Photo), video installations (Rineke Dijkstra, Darren Almond), and contemporary art (Joana Vasconcelos, Ruri). Since 2005 Miranda has regularly worked with excellent French and international photography galleries either during Paris Photo or as photography advisor and curator and in 2007 she was appointed Global Communications of Magnum Photos. This breadth of experience has enabled her to develop a broad knowledge of and respect for the different photographic formes — commercial, documentary and artistic.
