Detanico & Lain
Detanico and Lain were born in Brazil in 1974 and 1973. They live in Sao Paulo do Brasil and Paris and have been working together since 1996. They have rapidly made a name for themselves at the international level, developing their research through a constant equilibrium between graphics and semiology, digital art and visual poetry.
The duo explore a variety of different media, from installation to video, from sound to graphics, from text to typefaces.
The breaking down of motifs, images, sounds, words and the coding and decoding of different languages constitute the brilliant practice of these two Brazilian artists. Their work leads to unexpected discoveries of a concrete and formal art, full of new meanings (sometimes ambiguous and ironic) that lead to different interpretations of the same reality.
Together with José Damasceno they represented Brazil in the last edition of the Biennial Exhibition held in Venice. They participated in the last two Biennial Exhibitions in Sao Paulo, Brasil, and were awarded the Prize Nam June Paik (2004); they already exhibited their works in numerous prestigious exhibitions worldwide.
