Im Youngzoo
Born in 1982 in South Korea, Im Youngzoo is an artist whose practice explores the tensions between scientific rationality and irrational beliefs, through video, installation, performance, and virtual reality. Her work questions how societies create meaning from the unseen and the imaginary.
Winner of the Frieze Seoul Artist Award in 2025 for Calming Signal, a three-channel video installation, Im Youngzoo has exhibited at Perigee Hall & Gallery (Seoul, 2024), Doosan Gallery (New York, 2019), and MMCA (Seoul). She is currently shortlisted for the Korea Artist Prize 2025. Her approach, both documentary and narrative, offers a reflection on collective signals and social rhythms.
Represented by Chosun Gallery (Seoul), Im Youngzoo redefines the boundaries between reality and fiction, science and spirituality.
