Jordan Strafer
Filmmaker and artist Jordan Strafer works at the unstable boundary between documentary and fiction, examining media spectacle, legal systems, and American mythologies. Reframing the idea of the “parafictional,” she explains: “I tend to do the reverse, presenting fact as fiction (with fiction), making my work ‘inspired by true stories.’ Truth is a moving target.” Her films stage reenactments that blur memory and fabrication, allowing artifice to generate new forms of reality. Recurring blonde figures act as avatars—constructed identities loaded with aspiration, misogyny, and cultural symbolism. Through carefully cast performers and controlled visual worlds, Strafer exposes the tragicomic core of American culture. Her practice reveals how storytelling does not merely represent events but actively reshapes them.
