Marc Baillet
Color, joy, universality, and that which inspires life—these are undoubtedly what find irreducible expression in the paintings of Marc Baillet.
Active on the contemporary art and painting scene since 2020, his recent path has led him to exhibit in Paris—at Galerie Saint-Gilles in the Marais, at the Salon d’Automne, as well as at the Salon des Indépendants—but also in the United States, notably in Miami and New York, and soon in Japan, in Tokyo.
The themes and emotions the artist explores resonate with many of us. To achieve this, the painter draws on both figurative and poetic approaches, as well as abstract and rigorous ones.
“The joy of bold, punchy colors, the search for a sincere connection with others, universality, and the invitation to better understand the importance of living together—these are what move me, what I strive to express in the narrative of some of my paintings,” the artist tells us.
The Universal Palaver is one of the series of figurative and poetic paintings that Marc Baillet’s brush brings to life. In it, the artist tells us a story.
In this series, the great peoples of the Earth gather “in council” on the lands of the major nations involved in current global conflicts. Observing that our contemporary world is collapsing, they work toward the construction of a new human civilization. Together, they reflect on the mechanisms of a renewed and lasting peace. They agree on essential values and on what we must now strive toward, both individually and collectively.
In Japan, the theme under discussion is aesthetics and beauty; in Africa, respect for nature and the preservation of our planet; in the United States, in New York, freedom and human rights; in China, with Confucius, shared rules; in South America, at the foot of the Christ the Redeemer statue, the enigma of the sun and its symbolism; in Russia, in Red Square, the protection of the weak by the strong; and finally, in the desert of Mesopotamia, what defines an exemplary civilization.
While the artist makes extensive use of figurative and poetic approaches to express himself and convey his message, he is by no means limited to them. His expressiveness also takes shape in large-scale works (diptychs and triptychs) with a distinctly contemporary feel. His original works La Fréquence de Mozart, Lasting Balance and Happiness, and Life Vox aptly illustrate this other dimension of his practice.
Marc Baillet is a contemporary painter who currently lives and works in Paris, France. He has spent many years living in the United States, Finland, China, and several African countries. The passionate and colorful joy of art is evident in his work in acrylic and mixed media. Active on the art scene since 2020, he is also a company director and the author of the book The Cowboy Who Wants to Love.
