Néon — Who’s afraid of red yellow and blue?

Throughout winter 2012, la maison rouge will stage the first major international exhibition of neon art from the 1950s to the present day. Some one hundred works will be presented in all, many of historical significance, many being shown for the first time. They will include pieces by pioneers from the early 1950s and some of the many contemporary artists.

Many artists are interested in spaces in general, in houses in particular. This space in which we live — and makes human beings a singular species. The animal shelter becomes housing environment. The house becomes the continuation of the body and the place of all our states.

The exhibition takes its title from the short story by Franz Kafka, whose main character, a dog, questions the limits of his canine existence, or rather the sense of the community to which he belongs.

Les ouvriers agricoles qui ramassent les pastèques en Israël viennent tous, sans exception, d’un village arabe israélien proche de Nazareth – Manda. Pourquoi ? Ces derniers disent que c’est leur métier, qu’ils sont les meilleurs pour ce travail et qu’ils font cela depuis des milliers d’années…
