Swann Ronné
Swann Ronné’s work is structured around a system of montage and shifts between gestures and language. His approach is shaped by a perspective deeply influenced by urban visual environments, where bodies are constantly stimulated. Urban and digital architecture, design, advertising, fashion, signage, and graphics: the eye is ceaselessly engaged, both on an impulsive level and in deciphering signs.
Popular cultural signifiers, clandestine graphic techniques, signage, vandalism, and mass icons all serve as materials that lead him to painting. He extracts these codes and reconfigures their usage to inscribe them onto a surface and within the history of modern painting. Recognizable symbols are transformed into a new visual language, edited and coded to create unique emotional urban symbols. These symbols manifest in textures, colors, drawings, words, letters, and traces. Through the structural relationships between layers, he intersects and redraws, making his compositions resemble design interfaces and editorial layouts, achieving a novel visual effect. The visual result is a slippage, a movement, a covering, and a disguise between technology and conceptual language.
Swann Ronné (b. 1995) lives and works in Paris. He is a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris (2021) and the École Supérieure d’Arts et Média de Caen (2017).
