Asia Now
5ème Edition

Past: October 16 → 20, 2019

ASIA NOW, the frst European art fair showcasing the diversity of Asia’s contemporary art scene, celebrates its 5th Edition from 16 to 20 October 2019, at 9 Avenue Hoche, Paris 8e.

ASIA NOW is expanding and this year will welcome over 50 of the most prominent and cutting-edge galleries presenting over 250 established and emerging artists from China, Korea, Japan, Central and Southeast Asia, who push the boundaries of contemporary art. For its 5th edition, ASIA NOW reinforces its support of the younger art scene, by inviting galleries who are under 5 years old.

Building upon the success of its previous guest curator programs, ASIA NOW has invited Xiaorui Zhu-Nowell, Assistant Curator at the Guggenheim New York, to devise this year’s Curatorial Platform. Taking its title from the popular internet abbreviation IRL {In Real Life}, their program celebrates an emerging generation of artists who are digital natives and whose work critically engages with new media, issues of technology, and the challenges of contemporary art practice within our new sensorial environments.

This year, ASIA NOW will place collectors at the heart of its Special Projects, salon-style encounters with visionary collectors who will present their latest discoveries.

ASIA NOW reaffirms itself as an annual meeting place for opinion leaders of the art world, fostering an innovative environment gathering artists, curators, institutions and collectors around topics related to the fast-evolving art scene in Asia.

This year, ASIA NOW will also dedicate a section to Design and will present designers who create alternative, modular and multi-functional objects.

Envisioned and adapted for new urban lifestyles, these objects are tools conceived to optimise our living space by redefining it both spatially and conceptually.

NEW CURATORIAL PLATFORM & SPECIAL PROJECTS IN 2019

Curated by Xiaorui Zhu-Nowell, Assistant Curator at the Guggenheim Museum in New York Works included in the IRL {In Real Life} Platform explore the subject of digital media and technology through a broad conceptual lens, rather than considering technology as “cutting-edge”, “innovative”, or even “awe-inspiring”. This platform will be enacted in four sections, each of which will refer to a diferent mode of interaction: Unboxing, Peer-to-Peer, Hyperlink, and Chat Room.
