Colles & Chimères
Exposition de Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand

Past: October 25 → December 1, 2012

Born on February, the 1st of 1945 in Paris. After a decade devoted to painting, Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand, has been working with photographic tools since 1980. His works, strictly analogic, argentic in black & white, are characterised by a ludic imaginary and associated with a taste for complex technologies such as daguerreotype, peri-photography, strobe-photography … and other inventions of its own.

Le Grand Sommeil

“An old bloody mattress, ripped, burned; this is quite a curious fantasy. I confess its influence but still I cannot explain its reason. No doubt that we can see — like in the series : Les Maximiliennes — this effect of transfer that tormented objects can reach when, like me, one cannot stand to confront human suffering. Like a child who would see himself as Zorro, I am only making people believe that I am capable of compassion. Those rags of bristle and cotton are fake entrails, ersatz of pain. In short, they are a way to escape.”

In addition, at the occasion of the Franco-Croat Fest and of the exhibition The eye of Peter Knapp on Croat photography, the gallery baudoin lebon will present the work of the Croat artist Darije Petković.
