Sonja Ferlov Mancoba (1911-1984) holds a remarkable position in Danish modernism. Not only was she one of the only female artists of her time, she also worked primarily with sculpture, took an international orientation and her search soon brought her beyond the borders of her home country. Living in Paris from 1936 she strengthened contact between the French avant-garde and likeminded Danish artists. She played an active role in key Danish groupings in the 1930’s and 40’s such as Linien, Høst and the international movement CoBrA.
