The opening will take place on October 22nd. A major event for artistic creation, FIAC continues its development and confirms its status as a leading international fair.
Remaining attentive to the evolutions and concerns of contemporary creation; questioning the transformations of the careers of gallery owners and exhibition organisers as well as artistic practices themselves; leading prospective actions; being creative and responsive while ensuring a spirit of continuity with respect to the basic philosophy of the event — these are the founding principles of this 41st edition of FIAC.
In this way, FIAC 2014 reaffirms the key characteristics of its identity: — A rigorous selection process, which ensures the fair’s exemplary quality standards, — A far-reaching vocation that provides a balanced view of modern art, contemporary art and emerging artists, — Openness to different creative practices, — A solid base in the heart of Paris, in a harmonious relationship with public and private stakeholders in the world of art and culture.
FIAC 2014 will bring together 191 galleries from 26 countries.
France is represented by 48 galleries (25%), followed by the United States with 45 galleries, Germany with 26 galleries, the United Kingdom with 14 galleries, Italy with 11 galleries, Belgium with 9 galleries, Switzerland with 5 galleries, Brazil and Mexico with 4 galleries. 65% of the galleries are European versus 73% in 2013. The countries newly represented this year are Norway, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, India, and Japan. 38 galleries are participating for the first time or returning to FIAC.
FIAC is proud to announce the launch of its new event (OFF)ICIELLE.
(OFF)ICIELLE will be held in Paris from Wednesday, October 22nd to Sunday, October 26th at the Docks — Cité de la Mode et du Design. The vernissage will take place on Tuesday, October 21st.
(OFF)ICIELLE will host around sixty galleries from 13 countries working in the field of contemporary art and the emerging art scene.
(OFF)ICIELLE will explore new territories by focusing on the discovery of galleries and young artists, but also the rediscovery of artists that have not or not often been showcased on the international art scene. The event will present galleries whose programming testifies to a particular aptitude for deciphering contemporary creation, and allowing talent to be discovered, whether they are from the emerging scene or not.
For its first edition, the Selection Committee consisted of exhibition curators Hou Hanru (Curator/Artistic Director of the MAXXI — Rome), Anne Dressen (ARC Curator and Curator of the Musée d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris), Florence Ostende (Curator and art historian — Paris), and Olivier Antoine (Founder/Director of the Concept art gallery — Paris) and Josée Gensollen, collector and art patron residing in Marseille.
Organised in conjunction with FIAC & (OFF)ICIELLE, the 2014 edition presents a strengthened and enhanced artistic programme. From its historic centre, in the Tuileries Garden, and the Domaine National du Louvre, the first Hors les Murs site inaugurated in 2006, the programme of works has extended into the Jardin des Plantes and the various sites of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, to Place Vendôme and the Banks of the Seine. A programme including artists’ films, performances, and concerts and will also be presented on the docks at the Cité de la Mode et du Design.
Performance programmes
With (OFF)ICIELLE, FIAC extends its various performance programmes. Ouvertures/Openings, devised and produced in collaboration with the Musée du Louvre, is accompanied by the In Process cycle of performances dedicated to young creation and devised in association with curator Mehdi .
Brit. The Cinéphémère artists’ films programmes (presented in association with the Fondation d’Entreprise Ricard), also shown at the Auditorium du Grand Palais will be presented once again and enhanced through our collaboration with MK2. The Carte Blanche evenings dedicated to artists will be held again this year at the Silencio.
The 41st edition of FIAC will also provide the opportunity to discover an exceptional artistic programme in Paris and the regions. The synergies that FIAC develops with the stakeholders of cultural life, through initiatives such as the Parcours Privé and the Galleries Night, on Thursday, October 23rd, contribute to showcasing the French arts scene internationally.
This year, inaugurations of major institutions will punctuate FIAC week and that of (OFF)ICIELLE in a special way. The reopening of the Monnaie de Paris, which has been undergoing renovations since 2011, will be celebrated on Thursday, October 23rd, holding a major exhibition by Paul McCarthy.
