Le Temps des récoltes

In 5 days: October 22, 2026 → February 28, 2027

For the Fondation Cartier, Ibrahim Mahama envisions a living organism that echoes the art centres he founded in Tamale, in northern Ghana. In dialogue with the artists joining him, he transforms every space of the institution at Place du Palais Royal into a site of creation and experimentation. New works conceived specifically for the venue sit alongside fresh iterations of some of his emblematic installations, turning the exhibition into a space in constant transformation.nnIn Tamale, in northern Ghana, Ibrahim Mahama makes art a place of memory, transmission and encounter.

Since 2019, the three cultural centres he has established there have helped shape an independent ecosystem in which artistic creation is nourished by local roots, the sharing of knowledge and collective experimentation. His approach forms part of a broader movement across the African continent, supported by institutions such as doual’art in Douala, CCA Lagos, RAW Material Company in Dakar and the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute.nnIt is this conviction that underpins The Harvest Time, the artist’s first exhibition in Paris, conceived with nine artists and collectives with whom he has built longstanding collaborations and dialogues. Together, they explore the connections between heritage, history and becoming, transforming the exhibition into a space where ideas and experiences circulate.

Born in 1987 in Tamale, Ibrahim Mahama has, since the 2010s, developed a body of work attentive to the traces left by Ghana’s colonial and postcolonial histories. Through collected materials, archives and remnants of industrial heritage, he reactivates the past to open up new perspectives. Infrastructure, trade and traditional skills become witnesses to the political, social and economic transformations that shape societies.
