Chant de sables

Ends in about 2 months: April 9 → June 7, 2026

Literature lies at the core of Jérémie Bennequin’s multidisciplinary practice, functioning as both raw material and privileged medium. Guided by a logic of erasure, his artistic approach produces ambiguous works—ruins, palimpsests, vestiges, and relics of writing—situated at the intersection of words and images, of the readable and the visible, between memory and forgetting.

During his residency at the Crypte d’Orsay, Bennequin turns to the words of an ancient love dialogue: a sensuous poem from the first century of our era in the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament, known as the “Song of Songs.” By transposing the universe of this canonical text into the field of contemporary art, the exhibition unfolds as a multisensory experience. Sand and other aromatic powders become the primary medium, serving at once as the ground for ephemeral writing and as the very texture of its gradual burial.
