Surface Tensions extends her researchs started during her art-residency at ArtPace in San Antonio (Texas, US). Kapwani Kiwanga will present a set of works shown for the first time in France and playing on the ambivalence between visible and imperceptible, revealing and obscuring. The works will question the concept of control by using materials which affect the act of looking but also movement. The artist examines the mutations of technology at the crossroads of history and the present.
Winner of the Frieze Artist Award (2018), Kapwani Kiwanga (born in 1978) has had numerous personal exhibition internationally : _Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume (Paris), Ferme du Buisson (Noisiel), London South Gallery (London), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Torino), Logan Art Center (Chicago), Power Plant (Toronto), Esker Foundation (Calgary), Glasgow International (Glasgow), Musée de Joliette (Joliette). _
