Laura Burucoa’s artistic practice takes shape through context and through the people she engages with. She creates collective situations in which she pays close attention to the stakes involved as well as to the ways people communicate and collaborate. Taking time to get to know one another, learning to listen, observing, respecting how spaces are used, understanding how they function, adapting, making room for everyone to find their place, and staying open to surprise are all central to the projects she develops. From these encounters emerge shared stories that take form through videos, performances, fanzines, and podcasts.
With the support of the Frac Île de France, Laura Burucoa carried out a residency from October 2024 to February 2026 at the Maison Pour Tous du Jardin des Sources in Noisy le Grand in Seine Saint Denis. Over the course of eighteen months, she worked with several groups of local residents to build stories about the future, drawing on their own references and environments.
The project began with a group of children aged eight to ten: Macaire, Nigash, Akshay, Andréa, Djenebou, Yacine, Ajitha, Hamza, Ashvinth, Ali, Divyan, Sakeeth, Sasmina, Ghaveen, and Jerica. Together, they established the setting and narrative framework set in the year 2099. Science fiction became a liberating tool for creating shared stories rooted in reality, opening up new ways to engage with the world and to imagine.
Among the many stories developed was the idea of a reversed school where children teach their parents. This vision of a future school briefly became real through experimental workshops in which the children invited their parents to switch roles. They explored new forms of pedagogy, passing knowledge on to adults.
The exhibition Antenne Camembert brings together a selection of drawings, texts, fanzines, and patchworks created during the residency with the different participating groups. With a cartoon like aesthetic, the settings and characters shift in scale and come to life within the exhibition space. Ajitha’s Cool School and Andréa’s Camembert inspired by the Picasso Arenas in Noisy le Grand coexist with Hamza’s little king, Sakeeth’s many Spider Men, Yacine’s Mister Hotdog, Akshay’s Kaisens, Divyan’s school programs, and Djenebou’s rain of banknotes. The Project Room becomes an extension of the Maison Pour Tous, relaying the stories created by the children and inviting visitors to sit, read, or play.
On the occasion of the exhibition, Laura Burucoa publishes the fanzine Le lundi je joue et le jeudi je travaille, a residency journal documenting the collaborative creative process and the recorded exchanges with the children.
