Leonora Carrington

In 2 days: February 18 → July 19, 2026

An indefatigable traveler, both inwardly and outwardly, Leonora Carrington shaped her life through movement, transformation, and rupture. Born in 1917 in Lancashire, England, she crossed Europe—from Florence to Paris, from the south of France to Spain—before settling permanently in Mexico, where she became a major and cult figure on the artistic scene.

A pioneering artist at the crossroads of Surrealism, mythology, and esotericism, Carrington drew upon multiple influences: her discovery of classical Italian art and the Renaissance during her adolescence in Florence; her Celtic and post-Victorian roots; and her involvement with the Surrealist movement during her time in France. A feminist and ecologist, a woman, mother, migrant, marked by experiences of mental illness and engaged in a constantly evolving spiritual quest, she left behind a body of work as radical as it is extraordinary.

Bringing together 126 works, this exhibition is the first major retrospective in France devoted exclusively to Leonora Carrington. It presents her as a true “Vitruvian Woman”: a total artist embodying an ideal of harmony and innovation. Her creations dissolve boundaries between human and animal, masculine and feminine, giving shape to a symbolic world of perpetual metamorphosis.

Conceived through both chronological and thematic approaches, the exhibition offers a new perspective on her visionary creations and highlights the singular legacy of this perpetual seeker, always in pursuit of self-knowledge.
