ON-STAGE PRACTICE SEEKING TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF THE WORKING-CLASS, FROM WHICH HE BORROWS HIS GESTURAL VOCABULARY, HIS WRITING AND HIS AESTHETIC MARKERS, THE DANCER AND CHOREOGRAPHER ALEXANDRE ROCCOLI INCORPORATES IN LONGING THE MEMORY AND IMAGINATION OF THE TEXTILE TRADES, SPINNING THE METAPHOR OF THE HUMAN FABRIC.
The video, La terra del rimorso (1961) by the Italian ethnographer Ernesto de Martino, constitutes the point of entry to Longing, more lyrical than documentary and introduces repetition as the central motif of his writing. Alexandre Roccoli calls upon local folklores (from the Arabic sword dances to the Apulian Tarantellas) and the pulsational force of popular music (from the mourning song to techno music) to set up situations close to duel, between workers’ collaboration and ritual of encounter.
