Starlight Express Club
In 6 days: January 20 → March 14, 2026
Louise Mutrel’s new exhibition Starlight Express Club, presented at the contemporary art center of the Galerie Édouard-Manet, brings together a series of photographic objects in varied formats. Through large backlit lightboxes, her works inhabit the space evoking the pictorial tradition, such as altarpiece or diptych.
In Japan, Louise Mutrel has developed since 2019 a visual and narrative research project aroud the “dekotora” movement: spectacular customized trucks combining references from popular culture with saturated colors and forms.
Beyond the vehicles themselves, she also focuses on drivers who bring them to life and explores the nocturnal gatherings, gestures, and exchanges. The “dekotora” thus become supports for an artistic, artisanal, and social form of expression.
With Starlight Express Club, Louise Mutrel translates this aesthetic into installations. Presented as luminous devices, the images appear as fleeting perceptions, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the nocturnal, vibrant atmosphere of the “dekotora” club.
