On the occasion of her next exhibition from May 10th till June 23rd, Dominique Fiat inaugurates a new space at 12, rue Martel in the 10th district and joins a new generation of galleries located in the area. This space will be opened from Thursday till Saturday afternoon and will allow to try out new relationships with the visitors, to show large installations.
On May 10th and 11th, performances will take place there as part of the opening of the exhibition “ The World is not have I see it “ — curator Nawal Slaoui, coproduction CulturesInterface — with Zineb Andress Arraki, Amina Benbouchta, Hicham Berrada, Simohammed Fettaka and the playwright Driss Ksikes.
This group show intends to pass behind the mirror of social life. It is based on a sociocultural theme present in works by artists from South to East Mediterannean region, which brings to light the emergence of a harsh sensory movement, connected to the daily reality.
“ _The show is about individuality often affected by the relationship with others. The concern of not displeasing, of shaping oneself to please, belonging to a group, fitting into a society. As many concerns which, in a conscious acceptance, lead human being to split in two, to alienate. A conditioning accentuated by the inquisitive eye and the judgment of others which has for consequence the physical, moral and spiritual confinement of the individual.
Jean Cocteau said “ it is difficult to form oneself, to reform even more. “ Let us begin to question what seem self-evident : How? Where? When? Why? Let us observe our actions in the everyday life. This perspective is the approach adopted by Amina Benbouchta, Simmohamed Fettaka and Driss Ksikes.
An inaugural experience of the confrontation which at the same time denounces the alienating outside and announces a possible reconnexion with oneself, and beyond, with the invisible. Zineb Andress Arraki creates a filter of reading, whereas Hicham Berrada invents a language of shape, color and sound where each one can let his imagination express itself and give life to real perceptions_.” Nawal Slaoui & Salma Lahlou
