Tilt
Magic & Destroy

Past: April 5 → July 27, 2013

For this first solo show at the gallery Wallworks, Tilt turns rejected articles aside giving them a second life. Staining those objects with tags or Bubble Letters — these rounded letters invading his paintings ever — he encourages us to consider them otherwise as if by magic.

By his mastery of graffiti, Tilt gives an aesthetic dimension to objects destined for destruction or abandonment, as he diverts from vandalism a reprehensible practice such as the tag.

Saturation flops and tags he affixes on canvas, suitcases or furniture rail — two doors and a bench train — modifies these objects as their status. One Fiat 500 suffered the same fate, cut in two, and plated hanging on the wall like a trophy.

In the same spirit, Tilt uses letters and color for rendering harmless tools of destruction as grenades or jemmies — essential to any writer to cross fences — giving the illusion that all these objects are perfectly desirable.
