Drawing is what lies at the heart of Tracey Emin’s artistic creation. For her first exhibition at a major French institution, the British artist will be selecting drawings from the Musée d’Orsay collections, rarely presented to the public, and bringing them into dialogue with her own works.

These drawings produced on different scales and different mediums will be brought together by the artist to express our anxiety at being human when we are confronted with this complex yet essential aspect of our lives: love. Love, humans, animals, objects, in an extensive experience of our humanity. The reality of our lives will be brought into questions through these drawings, perhaps the most fragile art form, the one that best reflects sentiments and intellect, as part of a scenography specially designed to reveal the unique beauty of these fragile objects.

Tracey Emin was born in London in 1963. Her works have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide. Recently, Emin unveiled her public commission for the city of Sydney, The Distance of Your Heart (2018) and her largest-ever text piece, I Want My Time With You (2018), Saint Pancras International, London. She has also presented a series of dialogues with the great masters of the past, including Turner, William Blake, Francis Bacon and Egon Schiele.

Emin was appointed Professor of Drawing at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 2011.
