The exhibition “Nous dans la vie” offers an opportunity to discover Virginie Barré’s latest works across a wide range of media: drawing, sculpture and object, installation and film.

As Catherine Elkar pointed out in her introductory text for the catalogue of the exhibition “Virginie Barré. Bord de mer, des films et leurs objets” (2018), the artist shoots films at the same time as she is designing a myriad of objects, both invented and found, sometimes ordinary and always poetic. Hence a coexistence of two temporalities: the here-and-now of the exhibition, and film, which takes the viewer elsewhere.

At Galerie Loevenbruck, Barré is displaying abstract and figurative drawings printed on silk and cotton scarves. She set out her sculptures of seeds, painted pods and other natural harvests in a vitrine: a crown made of artichoke seeds, a necklace of eggs, painted wooden bowls and spheres. And, on the walls, necklaces, crowns and bracelets made of cut and painted paper, like a corpus acting as a manifesto of fragility, a hymn to joy. Works as props for a future musical, inspired by Paula Becker, Mary Cassatt, and Hilma af Klint.

She will present a preview of her new film, Nos corps sont des rivières (2023), which she worked on during a residency in Trouville-sur-Mer as part of the ÉTAPE#3 project organised by FRAC Normandie in partnership with the town of Trouville-sur-Mer and the company Les Cures Marines, and with the support of DRAC Normandie and Région Normandie.
