Boucle d’attente dans le néant

Past: May 19 → July 2, 2016

Under the title of “Holding pattern in the void”, the personal exhibition of Werner Büttner (1954 — Germany) at the Galerie Eva Meyer offers to approach the pictural univers of the artist by discovering ten of his latest productions.

Each canvas is built with images extracted from the platitudes of everyday life and their political implications, they coexist in pictural fictions often grotesques and insolent. Since the 80s, Werner Büttner hasn’t ceased to develop a distant look full of humor on our society, insisting sometimes fiercely on the artistic culture of his contemporaries.

The work of Büttner feeds itself of various sources like literature, revealing a strong interest for the works of Baltasar Gracian, Michel de Montaigne, François Rabelais or Jonathan Swift. The attention of the artist focuses on, among other things, the aphorisms that he opposes like relics of illusion to the reality of today.
