Youri Lenquette has always been close. In the paranoid universe of back stages and of band entourage, he arrived where the rest performed a somehow brutal retreat. As if he had released waves, or had emitted ultra sounds showing the musicians he was one of them.

David Lyle — Bits and Pieces

David Lyle gives a portrayal of a triumphant state walking back out victorious from the WWII and tending to spread over its universal model of happiness. And that’s what photography taught us. Lyle distorts the meaning by putting incoherent and contradictory elements from his personal archives with a particular attention to details.

More interested in guiding our gaze than in emphasizing the narrative, her work highlights the object’s unconscious. She decides to “reveal” rather than to create, drawing us into her alternative vision of everyday life.

Un art est né dans la rue parce que ses auteurs ne se définissaient pas comme des artistes. C’était là, la révolution. Des jeunes aux doigts errants, voulaient simplement rappeler leur existence en prenant à partie un paysage urbain, prison de briques et de pierres, souvent délabrée, qui servait de décor à leur vie.
