Musée du quai Branly
Where cultures meet in dialogue
Opened in June 2006, the aim of the musée du quai Branly is to focus on the importance of the arts and civilisations of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas — a blend of many cultural, religious and historic influences. Situated on the banks of the River Seine at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, the museum endeavours to be a place of scientific and artistic dialogue, a meeting point for discussions between the public, researchers, students and contemporary designers.
In the heart of Paris, a new multi-faceted institution designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, who won the 2008 Pritzker prize, presents a permanent collection of 3,500 works from our world heritage in a 5,000 m² space as well as nearly 3,500 m² devoted to temporary exhibitions.
The public can also attend the “Université Populaire” of the musée du quai Branly in addition to many shows, cinema cycles, musical afternoons, workshops for grown-ups and kids, and use the reading room and mediatheque, including a consultation room for precious collections.
