Erró entre à l’école des Beaux-Arts de Reykjavík en septembre 1949. Il étudie la gravure, la fresque et la peinture à l’académie à Oslo. En 1958, il se fixe à Paris où son travail est révélé dans le cadre de la Figuration narrative très populaire dans les années 60, dont il est un des représentants éminents.
