Bernard Ceysson Gallery
The gallery was founded in march 2006 by Bernard Ceysson (former director curator of Saint-Étienne modern Art museum, national museum of modern Art / Centre Georges Pompidou, and museum of Grand Duc Jean, MUDAM, Luxembourg) and his partners in a already existing publishing company. One of the main goal of the gallery was to gather the former member of the Supports/Surfaces group who needed more active representation but also offering young talented painters and sculptors a first solo show. Most of them have since participated in exhibition or have been able to create a solo project in institutional structure. And showing Supports/Surfaces in group or in solo show, in the galleries but also in art fairs, contribute to the rediscovering of these artists.
The first gallery opened in Saint-Étienne, France with Claude Viallat in a rather small space. The gallery moved into a wider space of 140m2 few months later.
In June 2008 the gallery has had the opportunity to open a beautiful space of 300m2, in fact two spaces gatherable or dividable depending the need, in the heart of the old town of Luxembourg.
In May 2009, the gallery started her third branch, in the center of Paris, few meters away from Centre Georges Pompidou, at the border of the Marais area in the 200m2 of the formerly Galerie Beaubourg. It was the best opportunity to show american artist Tom Friedman who has just join the gallery. It was his first solo show in France and it allows to him find several shows in France for 2009-2010.
