Bourse du Commerce
The Bourse du Commerce, located just North of the Louvre and steps from the bustling Halles in one of Paris’ oldest and most established neighborhoods for branded art and design, has been selected to house the very first edition of The Cutlog Contemporary Art Fair, holding ground October 22-25, 2009. Erected on a plot of land passed down aristocratic hands since the 13th century, the bourse’s current location was once the site of France’s first commodities exchange.
In the spirit of 19th century Europe’s coupling of the advancement of civilization with colonial expansion and industrialization, four artists were commissioned to decorate the cupola with works that appropriately depict the happy intersection of empire, commerce, industry and civilization. Today, the monument’s circular shape and galleried recesses have made it a prestigious location for exhibits, fairs and special events.
