Indice de Milan

Progressive and experimental, ’Indice de Milan’ creates a space, a time and a content which escapes the conventional definition of an exhibition. The project centres around a dialogue between Kirill Ukolov, an amateur science artist, and Laurent Derobert, an aesthetic savant converted to art.

Borrowed from Baudelaire, the title ’Spleen and Ideal’ is inextricably linked to the image which figures in the exhibition preface, a marble book end isolated with the aid of computer technology. Formal abstraction as a universal concept. Apart from the quotation, it’s this subtle interstice which the exhibition occupies.

The cycle ’Eternel retour’ (eternal repeat) reflects its own form: the spiral movement of a time folded back on itself, at the point where everything is regenerated. Each year, on its anniversary date, the Perception Park gallery restates its intent to collaborate by exploring what returns, what remains and what survives the passing of time.

In opening breaches and occupying the interstices, they spotlight that which is not evident at first glance, that which influences fluidity of thought and vision. Their objective is the viewer’s perspective, which finds itself short-circuited, modified, suppressed or even augmented.

Passages is an invitation and also an exploration of structure and point of view, of the notions of infinity and limit. Born by an architectural aesthetic, the principal of “mise en abyme” and optical illusions bring about a reflection on the place of the spectator opposite the artwork, and more widely, on personal positions in the context of a universal principal.

Originating from the emerging art scene, the artists summarise and reprise the traditional modes of landscape representation, drawing on its plasticity and universality. Associating with the impressionist character the beginnings of abstraction, they define new interpretations and aim at a substantial restitution of the landscape, more than an empathic representation.

Merapiland est le nom de la première exposition personnelle de Coraline de Chiara. Ce projet débute avec le voyage de l’artiste en Indonésie, son pays natal, pour l’année de ses 30 ans. Le titre de l’exposition qui dérive du nom du volcan indonésien Merapi, montre les liens qui se tissent entre le temps du voyage et celui de la création de cette exposition.

The word “Park” contains the notion of an enclosed space — the space in the gallery that the artist occupies for the first time — as much as the idea of perspective, of openness and of the infinite. Natural park, wasteland, the first series of images reflects a mystic nature. Each work evokes the “in-between”, the transient state, with even the possibility of the work itself being seen as a gateway.
