NWR
Documentaire inédit consacré à Nicolas Winding Refn

Past: Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 7 PM

The documentary is based on meetings between French journalist Laurent Duroche and Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, from 2008 to 2012.

The art of uniting popular movie genres with cinema d’auteur is traditionally associated with directors from the American continent such as Carpenter, Cronenberg and Tarantino. With only a few movies, Nicolas Winding Refn has become renounced as one of the few European masters in the field.

Laurent Duroche draws an intimate portrait of this extraordinary director and his characteristic style. His documentary traces the career of a shy director who entered the international stage in 2011 when he won the price for best direction at Cannes Film Festival. It follows him from Thailand where his next movie “Only God forgives” is being prepared to Copenhagen where he lives with his family. Nicolas Winding Refn talks about defining moments in his childhood and young
adulthood and reveals his fears and contradictions with a touching sincerity. By making comments to defining stages in his life, both private and artistic, Refn gives the viewer the key to understanding his troubling cinematic universe, often punctured by bolts of violence.

The documentary brings us closer to the mystery that is NWR.

The director and his team will be present.
