Marc Triver has been interested recently in small sets (consisting of four to eight images), and contact sheets obtained on a very old simple device (a Kodak Box). These sets have an immediate and strange effect, which lies between repetition and narrative, but it is very different from the one from the traditional contact sheets.

Pol Pierart
Past: December 3, 2016 → January 28, 2017
“Pledged to the desorder of feelings and infinite semantic orchestrations, the painting of Pol Pierart is decidedly unclassifiable, and that is without a doubt the reason why it resists with no difficulty the secure revenues, the ephemeral success and fashion.”

Choices Paris — NextLevel Galerie
Past: May 21 → 22, 2016
San Francisco-based artist John Chiara (born in 1971) pushes the boundaries of the photographic medium through his choice of process and the mastery of its possibilities. His approach is distinguished by its incredible physicality and recalls the early days of the medium when artists dealt with heavy, awkward equipment and endured long exposure and development times. Chiara’s giant cameras, which he designed and built himself, are transported to locations on a flatbed trailer to produce one-of-a-kind large-scale prints. The design of the cameras, which is much like daguerreotype box cameras, allows the artist to simultaneously shoot and perform his darkroom work while images are recorded directly onto oversized photosensitive paper (not film). This process, which Chiara first discovered as a student in 1999, invites anomalies in his final prints and adds to the mystery and lyricism of his pictures.

“Paint is not just colour, it’s light and air that I’m trying to portray on the canvas, dark and light…I’m trying to paint the atmosphere, trying to paint light itself. My works are primarily sensualist in the sense of colour, light, tone”.
— Peter Joseph

José Pedro Croft
Past: May 9 → July 11, 2015
José Pedro Croft has the habit of diverting everyday objects from their original function. The visual, plastic and poetic dimensions of his objects are mixed in his work, producing the sensation of a precarious balance between stability and instability which, according to the artist, ‘reflects the transitory aspect of the universe’.

Jean Degottex began to paint around the age of twenty. In 1949, Denise René, who had championed the abstract avant-garde movement since the war, put on his first exhibition. Peter Joseph has, over the course of decades, dedicated his practice to seeking the potential in constraint. He rose to critical acclaim in the 1970s for his meditative, two-colour paintings.

Peter Joseph
Past: November 9 → December 20, 2013

Jean Degottex
Past: February 7 → March 23, 2013
The gallery announces an exhibition of Jean Degottex’s major works. Degottex began to move away from lyric abstraction in 1955, a movement in which he figured prominently. He abandoned colour little by little and took an interest in symbols and writing. The writing then disappeared and gave way to lines, in search of starkness and the undiminished gesture.

Jorge Molder — L’échelle de Mohs
Past: October 24 → December 8, 2012
Jorge Molder’s artwork is deeply connected with philosophy and literature. From these, his work draws a peculiar taste for the dark side of the mind, for the “frightening unknown ” and for a subtle meteorology of ambiguities. Molder, indeed, is particularly interested in the metaphysical aspects that enter the everyday life of each human being.

Past: December 3, 2011 → February 4, 2012
