Olivier Masmonteil — La mémoire du passé

For his third solo exhibition, the painter Olivier Masmonteil advances a little more in his chapter “Le plaisir de peindre”. The artist chooses to take possession of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres’ paintings and, in particular, some commissioned portraits focused on details of drapery and rendering of materials.

This is the first exhibition of photographic works by the artist duo Bruno Metra & Laurence Jeanson. Called ID, the series question the fragility of individual identity against the diktats imposed by the society of images. They work without any retouch, directly, scalpel scissors, scotch, a artistic surgery emergency performed, reinventing the patient’s identity.

Akin to improbable gardens, where ancient myths and fantastical narratives intertwine, the new works by Alicia Paz allow us to discover an exuberant flora and fauna, a sumptuous amalgam composed of paint, paper, and found objects. The female figure is the central protagonist in this fictional world, at once mysterious and playful.

Josef Bolf is one of the most important Czech artists of his generation among others artists such as Jan Šerých, Ján Mančuška and Tomáš Vaněk with whom he created the artist group BJ, active between 1996 and 2002. His generation, which emerged at the beginning of the 2000’s, was also the first to be free from Communist censure.

Dans Syntactic Structures, il l’utilise comme un exemple de phrase jamais encore prononcée par aucun être humain, syntaxiquement correcte mais sémantiquement absurde. Dépourvu a priori de sens, cet haïku fait écho au chaos ambiant.
