Ana Mendes
Ana Mendes (b. 1973 Tomar, Portugal) finished an M.A. in Writing for Performance at Goldsmiths College (2010–11); video at the Royal Institute Art Stockholm (2018-19), Animation Film, at La Poudriere, Valence, France and Photography at Bauhaus University, Germany (2012).
Selected group exhibitions include: London Group Show, London (2019); Lagos Biennial, Lagos, Nigeria (2019); A side B, Seoul Art Space Geumcheon, Seoul, South Korea; Arte de Cabeza, Anual Exhibition, Museo de Arte Moderno Chiloé, Chile; MAC International, Metropolitan Arts Centre, Belfast, UK (2016).
Solo exhibitions include: a tale of Europeans, Natural History Museum Vienna and Universalmuseum Joanneum, Graz, Austria (both 2017); The People’s Collection, Linden Museum and Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart, Germany (2017).
Recent prizes and nominations include: ADAGP Artist Revelation Award, finalist, ADAGP, Paris, France, 2019; Jerwood Drawing Prize, Second Prize, winner (2017); Prize Jury, Honourable Mention, MAAT Museum/Festival Fuso, Lisbon, Portugal (2016); Prize of the Jury, Sophiensale, Berlin, Germany, 2014.
Mendes was the recipient of fellowships by Academy Schloss Solitude, Germany (2015/17) and Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon, Portugal (20010/11, among others). She lives and works in London/UK and Stockholm/Sweden.
