Jean-Luc Verna — Vous n’êtes pas un peu beaucoup maquillé ?
Past: January 10 → March 1, 2021
The birds drawn by Verna are like the birds recounted by Aristotle in his History of Animals: they come to us out of a mass of observations whose veracity can neither be established nor called into doubt. Far from having abandoned the kingdom of artifice we know as his customary terrain, these recent drawings presented by the Air de Paris gallery reveal a practice founded on the analogy between art and living systems.

War Pickles II
Past: September 19 → October 31, 2014
“War Pickles II” is a fun exhibition full of pickles and war that anyone will surely understand and enjoy freely, without years of advanced education or careful definition of taste. Materials vs materialism. “War Pickles” cannot go overboard about foregrounding the material of art as expression or concept because pickles are all about the ingredients.

Monica Majoli — Pam
Past: March 21 → May 10, 2014
“Pam” is an exhibition comprising four paintings done by the same person over a period of twenty years. Three recent portraits call to mind the technique Monica Majoli has been developing in her “Black Mirrors” series since 2008, in the form of photographs of her lovers as seen in the black mirrors lining a room in her Los Angeles home.

Pierre Joseph — Maintenant
Past: January 24 → March 8, 2014
The main work in the exhibition “Endless Photographs” is a series of snapshots taken in the Normandy forest near where he lives, using one of the latest models of camera, but with no attention paid to lining up the shots, no adjustments, and using modern methods of production for printing and production.

Jef Geys
Past: January 24 → March 8, 2014
In favouring ’the world as support’ and in his attempt at a synthesis of art and life, Jeff Geys (though he makes no claim to it) belongs in the tradition of Fluxus. Since 1958 he has been making a meticulous inventory of all his works, which he orders according to subject, genre, year and number.

Brice Dellsperger — Bons Baisers d’Hollywood
Past: November 15 → December 21, 2013
Brice Dellsperger exhibitions come with a built-in paradox: everything is repetition and reprise, but at the same time exhilaratingly new. Postcards from the Edge comprises new additions to the cult series Body Double, with the artist reworking sequences from art and mainstream movies to create already fantasised scenes that lend themselves to further fantasising.

Paginations & Machinations — Group show
Past: September 14 → October 31, 2013
The exhibition Paginations & Machinations presents works whose form is a hair’s breadth short of that of the book. Destined to be brought together, like these pages, they relate an encounter which maybe happens in the Air de Paris space or when the visitor is invited to trigger things there.

M/M — C’est Wouf!
Past: April 12 → May 18, 2013
Art as practised by M/M is a cumulative affair, spreading from medium to medium in a process of endless expansion. M/M’s concern is signs: their absolute plasticity and their persistence. Playing with scale and context, the work of this duo is fuelled by transpositions of media and form that trigger corresponding effects of meaning.

Pétrone/Pétrole
Past: April 12 → May 18, 2013
Where writing can be seen as covering a bottomless pit, the lost text lays it bare. It is up to us, then, to plumb the unfinished work, the rough draft, as what has survived the disaster, as its intangible sign. It is up to us to read and reread until our eyes are dropping out, to follow the lineaments of the preparatory sketches.

Stéphane Dafflon — Swing
Past: February 22 → April 6, 2013
The way Dafflon’s practice is rooted in shifts, while, incidentally, embracing all the operations already mentioned, none of which, alone, would exhaust its complexity: shifts of format, colour and placement. This artist summons his viewer as much to a rediscovery of the venue as to a perceiving of autonomous forms.

2012
Past: December 7, 2012 → February 9, 2013
In the final analysis, maybe, numbers, far from facilitating a purely scientific approach, actually contribute to the depth of the world. Like the letters in a novel, they could be seen as constituting not only its secret grammar, its skeleton — the dream of a mathesis universalis — but also its flesh. Not so much mar…

Joseph Grigely — Remains
Past: October 26 → December 1, 2012
The remains that constitute Grigely’s Remains are not the actualized objects that are left behind; rather, these objects are unmade and remade, and become reified extensions of their previous reality. Captions have been removed; colors have been changed; wood and cast iron have been replaced with crystal urethane.

Donnelle Woolford — MaLeVoLeNcE — Christophe Sarlin — Horizon/ Desert Process
Past: October 26 → December 1, 2012
Donelle Woolford’s new work is malevolent. Having experienced the joys and challenges of being an emerging young artist, she isn’t so interested in spending the next twenty years mounting more solo shows, getting reviews, participating in biennials, etc. Instead, Woolford has decided to just assume the identity of a mid-career artist now.

Bruno Serralongue — Histoires des avant-dernières luttes
Past: September 15 → October 21, 2012
Serralongue subverts both the procedures of conceptual photography — revealing the complexity of the real more than exhausting its forms — and a certain dematerialisation at work in contemporary art. Triggering a reversal of the usual state of affairs, he renders visible things which otherwise would be no more than media prompts.

Aaron Flint Jamison
Past: September 14 → October 21, 2012
Aaron Flint Jamison demonstrates that publishing can be intransitive—without an external purpose—without necessarily being self-reflexive. He does this not only with his splendid magazine Veneer,1 but also in his works, which in some cases include his books. Like his publications, his works reflect a high level of conceptual and formal mastery.

Past: April 20 → May 26, 2012

preconceptions.

Arthur Rainbow
Past: March 9 → April 14, 2012
“Arthur Rainbow” tweaks Rimbaud’s name and suggests a rereading of “Voyelles”, the iconic poem of Symbolist synaesthesia. Whatever the message and the medium, this group exhibition will freely associate works whose common feature is granting colour a liberating — not to say ecstatic — power, and among a host of qualities, that of bringing people together.

Mrzyk & Moriceau — Poppies are also Flowers 2/4
Past: March 9 → April 14, 2012
What really lies behind a drawing? Ideas don’t come out of nowhere. Though the classical definition of drawing (the disegno, the intention) directly involves the power to express concepts, what are their sources and what forms do they imply? Mrzyk & Moriceau offer two possible answers to this double-barrelled question.

Adriana Lara — Scryyns and Interesting Theories
Past: January 27 → March 3, 2012
Adriana Lara’s work steps in before the very appearance of the picture, at the screen level. Pure structures in which the content must, more than ever, be kept inside, the artist litterally making use of their projective dimension. She assumes the materiality of the screen as the ground of the work: without any message the medium becomes another medium.

Past: December 10, 2011 → January 21, 2012
No question, Ingrid Luche’s works disconcert: in her sculptures and installations the viewer recognises the everyday functional forms she takes her inspiration from, but those forms are marked out by a gap that is none other than the one separating reality from dream.

Past: October 21 → December 3, 2011
The first, at Air de Paris, comprises two new films and a series of new structures. The first film is derived from a filmed tour, in idealised form, of the Kalmar Volvo factory, shot in the early 1970s. The second film is developed from a short clip of a group of car workers sitting inside a metal machine press, having to bend over each time the press.

Jean-Luc Verna Vous n’êtes pas un peu beaucoup maquillé ? — Non
Past: September 10 → October 15, 2011
As the years pass Jean-Luc Verna’s worship of the iconic Siouxsie Sioux continues undiminished: she changed his life the moment when, as a teenager, he first saw on TV. Since then “La” Verna has tirelessly modified, redrawn and embellished his tribute; yet while the tattoos accumulate, title used for his solo exhibitions remains immutable.

Freaks and Geeks
Past: June 30 → July 23, 2011
Gathering prosaic objects, tokens, language-based works and a few films, songs and paintings, the exhibition “Freaks and Geeks” takes its inspiration from the art of the teenage movie, one that has been too often overlooked by contemporary art. As echoes of the ethics of the anti-heroes and losers within the genre.

No Family Life
Past: February 11 → March 19, 2011
Living a life at 7500 € per square metre or 1800 € rent a month is possible. Paris air is on sale by the cubic metre, but this isn’t an effect of social segregation, it isn’t a form of exclusion — it’s just that the value of the ground under our feet has changed, and our lives with it…
