Markus Åkesson — Let me sleep through the night
Past: January 13 → February 24, 2018
A painter of the imaginary, Åkesson meticulously documents his compositions thanks to the photographic tool. His studio is the theater of perfectly orchestrated posing sessions during which he dresses his models up with various costumes and richly printed accessories. Thanks to these elaborate mises-en-scène, he gives to his work a visual tone and light reminiscent of cinema.

Markus Åkesson & Lucy Glendinning — The milk of human kindness

After participating in exhibitions at the Musée Cognacq-Jay and the Musée de la Halle Saint-Pierre, British sculptor Lucy Glendinning and Swedish painter Markus Åkesson return to the Galerie Da-End. The two artists have decided in this exhibition to engage in a dialogue between their respective worlds.

The Galerie Da-End gathers an ensemble of recent and ancient artworks, fruit from the labours of 30 artists, in order to constitute a contemporary showcase of curiosities. The gallery space once more becomes the setting for our discoveries and immerses the visitor in a both poetic and troubling world ruled by the artists’ imagination.

Markus Åkesson invites us on a journey through the dense Scandinavian forests where the fauna and the flora stand alongside the humans’ realm. The dusky-colored aquatic and vegetal elements, the muddy peat lands and the small ponds deep in the woods, form a hymn to Nature and to Nordic legends.
