This winter, the Galerie Da-End invites the Dutch sculptress Carolein Smit to show her work for the first time alongside that of German painter Mike MacKeldey, on the occasion of a duo-exhibition titled ‘Paizô’.

The main idea driving this collective exhibition is to transform the Musée Cognacq-Jay and its collections into a source of contemporary inspiration. For most of the featured artists it was a question of producing specific pieces inspired by the discovery of a place and its history.

Mike MacKeldey — La manie d’abruti

MacKeldey renews the genre of portrait painting with audacity. Far from trying to produce bland or idealized artworks, he shuns tradition with pictorial gestures and experimentation with materials. This play of contrast, which is his trademark, seems to translate a sort of detachment from painting itself, and offers multiple means for interpretation.

The Galerie Da-End revives the tradition of these “ Rooms of Wonders ” by proposing a collective exhibition. Much like the original cabinets of curiosities were reproductions of the world in miniature, the Cabinet Da-End IV indexes the numerous faces of today’s creation in the microcosm of the gallery space.
