Florentine & Alexandre Lamarche-Ovize — Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature
The Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature is hosting the exhibition La licorne, l’étoile et la lune (The Unicorn the Star and the Moon) by the duo Florentine and Alexandre Lamarche Ovize who make enchantment the driving force of an inventive and spellbinding aesthetic within a space the duo inhabits in its entirety.
From the outset the multitude of intertwined materials and media strikes with its generosity and bears witness to an immediately contagious pleasure in creation where imagination fiction and poetry intertwine, intelligently echoing a multitude of foundational narratives. The animal realm spills out in complete freedom and creates its own ecosystem freed from human injunctions and needs.
Here the animal becomes the actor in a game that overturns the primary code of the hunt and erases the binary opposition between hunter and prey in order to play its own hand far from humans. There power relations alternate and develop their own logic. From the fantastic to the fantasized the artists’ discoveries install in the space a playful haven that allows all audiences to seize upon a moment apart, carried, like the medieval book that inspires them The Bestiary of Love by Richard de Fournival, by a blend of observation and romantic breath. To this the artists never fail to add a touch of humor that contributes to these delirious relationships between species between materials and media whose proximity acts like a feverish collage that carries every visitor into its world.
Unbridled baroque exuberant and inventive, the exhibition undeniably stands out for its visual impact and its ability to generate its own folklore, which it inscribes in powerful colors in the imagination of all those who take care to let themselves be enclosed within this undeniably charismatic forest.
