Learn more A prominent figure in French abstraction since the 1970s, moving between mediums (sculpture, installation, intervention, etc.) before finally settling on painting in the 2000s, the artist offers, with Modulations, a journey full of striking intensity. While Béatrice Casadesus has focused solely on painting for many years, she has continued to maintain that material ambiguity which gives her works a vibrant presence in space. Volume, the spectrum of textures and resistances, the rigors of heat and cold, and the occupation of space have never left her compositions, now transcribed through the syntax of light and pigment.

This language unfolds once again in this exhibition, resembling a journey through planets—an astral continuum that plays with the gallery’s beautiful volumes, enveloping the visitor in lines that dissolve as one approaches. The rigor of the production process transforms within the canvas itself, turning the initial painting framework into an inner evolution.

Her modulations are mutations that invite us to perceive and savor the movement of color, at times drawn toward the ground vertically, at others levitating horizontally. The planes of space—above and below—that originally dictated these movements no longer apply, enclosing us in kaleidoscopic visions. And if behind this freedom, there remains the notion of a grid with the prominence of this motif, it is to better focus attention on movement, that of light.

In this way, intensities jostle and converse, freeing us, if only for a moment, from the distractions of the world, while modulating the one, closer, contained in each fragment that composes it. For to abstract the gaze from the global space is also to concentrate attention on local turbulence. And in this regard, her works offer a symphony of events, where consciousness grasps only their force.

A success magnified by the exhibition’s scenography, which embraces the density of the work and its display to more intensely affirm the goal of this abstraction: connecting us even more to reality. It encourages us to feel meaning rather than decipher it, to follow its twists and turns rather than demand a definitive explanation.
