Jérémy Gobé — Cac La Traverse, Alfortville
On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, Le Cac La Traverse invites artist Jérémy Gobé to present a retrospective of his Corail Artefact project, blending art and science to propose a sustainable initiative rooted in action.
Through a process that incorporates observation and the history of artisanal traditions, he draws from the art of lace-making — a craft that intriguingly mirrors coral structures — a weaving method that enhances its regenerative abilities. This interplay of forms, animated by the artist’s dedication, reveals a fruitful inspiration, making visible the unseen, magnifying common elements, and highlighting points of aesthetic convergence with nature.
Thus, one witnesses a dance of materials, each bearing its own motifs and creating a myriad of colors in space which, though borrowing from industrial language, actually subvert its logic, transforming their function from ends to means.
The exhibition—featuring installations, documents, and work samples—highlights a creative journey whose undeniable effectiveness constantly underscores the captivating interplay between human effort and natural development. No longer a matter of opposition, the path of Where We Are Going has a particular capacity to question the artist’s role in a pursuit that goes beyond pure functionality (even if it demonstrates this). The array of isolated studies and forms also contributes to creating a map of nature that enriches both the imagination and future invention, while actively advancing human interests.
In all cases, these works activate our need to understand and offer a moving mirror of an artistic creation that acts and inspires action, granting its objects the status of true subjects and offering its viewers an essential crutch: hope.
