Galerie Les filles du calvaire is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Kate MccGwire at the gallery. Included in the exhibition will be sculptures, wall mounted works and a large-scale installation, showcasing the artist’s sustained interest in nature and her personal meditation on life lived on the water.
MccGwire is known for her muscular, writhing forms made with feathers, and reminiscent of Classical sculpture and creatures from mythology. Her works explore dualities of aesthetics, being simultaneously seductive and repulsive; form, being both organic and abstract; and movement, appearing fluid yet being static.

Emma Dusong — La voix libre
Past: January 26 → February 23, 2019
The artist developed new studies for the exhibition at the Galerie Les filles du calvaire. She envisages artworks, venue and exhibition as a whole. She stages a cycle, an accelerated simulacre of a day, which fills artworks with temporal life and transforms the gallery into a cocoon. When L’observatoire is active, Classe remains silent and vice-versa. Moreover, the alternating luminous ambience, passing from day to night, reinforces the impression of a day within a day.

As a continuation of her projects created in Réunion, in 2009 Laura Henno began working in the neighbouring archipelago of the Comoros, the regional epicentre of migration and its related repercussions.

This project comes from a desire to materialize the collaboration between Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire and the photography book-magazine “OFF the wall” over a summer exhibition. It will also be the opportunity to hold a group show on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the gallery and the last issues of the magazine.

His exhibition will fill the ground floor of the gallery with large scale monochromes, whose colour is left to the viewer to determine.

Erwan Morère favours very dense black and whites and a relative opacity that obstructs the eye, contradicting what is usually taught to young contemporary photographers.
